Școala de inginerie geologică a fost fondată în anul 1948 prin înfiinţarea Institutului de Geologie și Tehnică Minieră, primul centru național de educație dedicat minelor și metalurgiei, exploatării gazelor și petrolului, geologiei economice și geologiei inginerești, condus de academicianul Nicolae Petrulian. Școala de inginerie geologică a funcționat succesiv la Institutul de Mine (1952-1957), Institutul de Petrol, Gaze şi Geologie (1957-1974), Facultatea de Geologie, Geografie şi Biologie (1974-1989) iar din 1989 ca Departament de Inginerie geologică al Facultății de Geologie și Geofizică din Universitatea din București. Departamentul de Inginerie Geologica si asociatiile profesionale care activeaza in domeniul ingineriei geologice si hidrogeologiei colaboreaza in beneficiulul specialistilor si studentilor.
The School of Geological Engineering was founded in 1948 through the establishment of the Institute of Geology and Mining Technique, the first national centre for education dedicated to mines and metallurgy, oil and gas exploitation, economical geology and engineering geology, led by the Romanian Academy member Nicolae Petrulian. The School of Geological Engineering successively functioned under the Mining Institute (1952-1957), Institute of Oil, Gas and Geology (1957-1974), Faculty of Geology, Geography and Biology (1974-1989) and as a Department of Geological Engineering in the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics of the University of Bucharest since 1989.
